Project Challenge
At the time, Weider History Group was the world's largest publisher of history magazines. WHG published 11 magazine titles (American History, British Heritage, America's Civil War, Civil War Times, World War II, Vietnam, Wild West, Aviation History, Military History, Military History Quarterly, and Armchair General).
- How do we create a site that simultaneously provides an umbrella brand identity for all 11 magazines, but also lets each magazine retain its own identity?
Proposed Solution
Among several changes, I suggested a carousel that would feature the individual covers of each magazine and a feature story from each magazine. When a visitor clicked on a magazine cover, it would take the user to that specific magazine's landing page. This approach reduced the web real estate used by one-third.
